I recently wrote a guest blog entitled, "Subgroup-Specific Accountability, Teacher Job Assignments, and Teacher Attrition: Lessons for States," for the Shanker Blog at the Albert Shanker Institute. This blog describes the findings of my recent study of the impacts of No Child Left Behind's subgroup-specific accountability on teachers. I describe the findings of the study, and suggest that under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) states should carefully monitor the impacts of their subgroup-focused accountability policies on not only student subgroups, but also on teachers.
